Afiya was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Throughout her childhood, she took advantage of different programs in the city during school years and summers. Being a participant in different programs throughout the city during her adolescence opened Afiya up to a world of different opportunities she wouldn’t have had access to without the programs. This created her drive to make even more opportunities accessible to youth in the city.
